South Africa mulls CO2 tax

The South African government has proposed to introduce a carbon tax from 1 January 2015. The country’s carbon tax will be set at 120 rand/t ($13.62/t), and a tax-free exemption threshold of 60pc will apply, with additional allowances for emissions-intensive and trade-exposed industries to help offset the impact of the new tax.
