CONTEMPORARY RESIDENTIAL GARDENS

This issue of landscape Architecture Australia explores the way that landscape architects in Australia currently engage with the private domestic garden as a creative endeavour. It also critically reviews how that work might relate to other artistic fields. The next issue will extend this exploration to public gardens. While there are currently a few well-known and well-publicized designers of domestic gardens in Australia, their work tends to the formulaic and, tellingly, there are no landscape architects among them. Why is that so? There are, after all, despite the profession's recognized predilection for work in the public rather than private sphere, plenty of landscape architects designing gardens and the profession's best are among them.
