SeaLand surmounts growing pains

Maersk relaunched SeaLand in January to provide a more specialised service in the Americas' north-south trade. After some early hiccups, it is now reporting solid progress. "We still have some things we need to work through and a few areas to shore up, but as we enter the fourth quarter we'll be in a really good spot," affirmed SeaLand CEO Craig Mygatt. "Last year, we spent a lot of time building the organisation and getting our processes down," he told IHS Maritime. "This year, we've focused on getting the Maersk contracts transitioned over to SeaLand so we get the visibility on everything moving under SeaLand, giving us the transparency to better serve the customers. It took some time, but we're 95% there," he said in August.
