Comments on a paper by Cai et al. (Appl. Catal. B. 101 (2010) 160) dealing with XPS spectra of ceria catalysts

In a recent paper, Cai et al. [1 ] investigated the effects of Fe~(3+) ion doping on the catalytic properties of CeO2 oxide using XRD, TEM, Raman, EPR and XPS techniques. Here I shall comment upon the XPS results, especially the Ce3d spectra, and shall argue that the authors' interpretation of them is largely unwarranted.
