INTRODUCTION AND CONTENT

This quarterly report on alumina and bauxite provides information of three types: short-term capacity and production developments for alumina and bauxite; price and cost trends for alumina; and medium-term prospects for capacity for alumina and bauxite. A companion report covers capacity and market information for primary aluminium. This report is based on information available up to 3J August 2007 and includes International Aluminium Institute (IAI, formerly known as IPA1) data for alumina production up to June 2007. The report is timed to include lAI's quarterly information on alumina production and up-to-date statistics on the primary aluminium industry and therefore appears shortly after the 26 February, May, August and November of each year. Tables 1-8 provide information for alumina. Tables 9-10 cover bauxite. Table 11 provides information on the use of caustic soda in the alumina industry.
