Alcohol liaison: Does an in-reach model work?

This article examines an important nursing role in hospital that tries to prevent re-admissions for alcohol-related illnesses. This role has developed over the last 10 years and is now present in most hospitals in England. This article describes a service in a hospital in Islington, London and examines the patient cohort. It describes the service and the other London boroughs it works with. It reviews the data from an evaluation taken at the end of 2015. It also looks at what is possible for the cohort of patients who present to this service through case studies, which illustrate where the service needs to focus most of its work on the clients who do eventually engage with community services. This is because it is seen that they have a high potential not to re-present to hospital. This will be proposed as the next stage of research to verify this finding further.
