摘要

During the year, 1999, wheat was imported from Turkey and Ukraine through Chennai port under Open General Licence (OGL). While inspecting the wheat for quarantine objects, a total of 22 species of weed seeds were intercepted. Out of these 21 are exotic to India and 1 is indigenous. Out of 21 exotic weed seeds, 8 are considered serious in nature. The frequency was found between 2 to 20 in 20 samples. The Weed Risk Assessment (WRA) scores reveal that 14 species have the potential to become weed in India Seventeen exotic weed species were found viable even after long storage. Observations are indicative that bulk import of grains could be source of introduction and dissemination of exotic weeds.
