FEASIBILITY AND ECONOMIC PROFITABILITY OF RABI CROPS UNDER DIRECT AND RESIDUAL EFFECT OF PHOSPHORUS IN SOYBEAN BASED CROPPING SYSTEM IN VERTISOLS

Field experiment was conducted at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur to ascertain the most technically feasible and economically profitable rabi crop under direct and residual effect of phosphorus in soybean based cropping system in vertisols of Chhattisgarh plain. The data revealed that variety JS-335 recorded significantly higher grain yield with higher monitary return followed by PK-472. In case of phosphorus response, grain yield increased significantly with increasing level of phosphorus from 30 to 60 kg P_2O_5 ha~(-1). Further, increase in phosphorus level resulted in decrease in value of grain yield. Coriander after soybean recorded significantly higher chickpea equivalent yield over rest of the rabi crops except with chickpea forfirst year and with safflower for second year, which were at par. All the rabi crops showed good response of residual phosphorus and found that yield attributes of all rabi crops increased with increasing levels of residual phosphorus from 30 to 90 kg P_2O_5 ha~(-1), however, the difference between 60 and 90 kg residual P_2O_5 ha~(-1) was not significant in most of the observation. Further, it was observed that direct application of 50% of recommended dose of phosphatic fertilizer showed significant response on each crop over no phosphorus application during both the years.
