Metal futures: Copper hits new highs

Copper prices settled at their highest price in a decade in official trading on the London Metal Exchange today, as supply concerns and a weaker dollar added to strong overall demand for base metals. The three-month LME copper contract settled at $9,730/t today, up 2.2pc from 23 April's official session. Copper prices have not settled above $9,700/t in the LME's official morning session since August 2011 and have only settled above the $9,500/t level twice since that year.
