EFFECT OF PHOSPHORUS APPLICATION ON THE GERMINATION, GROWTH AND YIELD OF FRENCH BEAN (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS L.) IRRIGATED WITH SODIC WATER

A pot experiment was conducted for two year with five levels of RSC Viz. control. 2.5. 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 m mol L~(-1), rich irrigation water and four levels of phosphorus Viz. control, 45, 60 and 75 Kgha~(-1) on sandy loam soil. The germination percentage, plant height, number of pods plant~(-1), number of grains pod~(-1), grain and straw yields of French bean decreased signficantly with the use of sodic irrigation water. While, significant enhancement in germination, growth and yield were noted withphosphorus application up to 75 kgha~(-1). It was concluded that phosphorus fertilization would be beneficial if the RSC rich irrigation waters up to 10.0 m mol L~(-1) are used.
