Toyota invests $14bn in battery development

Japan's largest carmaker, Toyota Motor, has committed ￥1.5 trillion ($14bn) towards developing and supplying batteries by 2030, boosting its investment in electrification. In a presentation today, the company detailed its ambitions to scale up battery output to meet future demand. “In development, we will aim to achieve a per-vehicle cost of 50pc or less compared with now, through the integrated development of vehicles and batteries,” the company's chief technology officer, Masahiko Maeda, said.
