Characters association among morphological traits in sugarcane clones.

Eighty-one progeny clones of six sugarcane crosses including three standard checks were evaluated for 5 traits in a 9 x 9 triple lattice design with three replications. The correlation and path coefficient analysis showed that number of millable canes per clump and single stalk weight recorded high magnitude and showed significant positive associations with cane yield. These were the characters of importance for selecting elite clones with superior cane yield as indicated by path analysis. This analysis also revealed that stalk height and stalk diameter itself were not important traits for direct selection for higher cane yield but they contributed to it indirectly through single stalk weight.
