Higher potency statins and the risk of new diabetes: multicentre, observational study of administrative databases

What is the incremental increase in new onset diabetes from use of higher potency statins compared with lower potency statins for secondary prevention? SUMMARYANSWER Use of higher potency statins is associated with a moderately increased rate of new onset diabetes. WHAT IS KNOWN AND WHATTHIS PAPER ADDS Statins are recommended for secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, but the incremental increase in risk of new onset diabetes with higher potency as opposed to lower potency statins remains to be determined. This study suggests use of higher potency statins is associated with a moderate increased risk of new onset diabetes.
