THE CHIEF JOSEPH Trail Ride (CJTR), now in its 50th year, is one of the longest progressive trail rides in the country, covering 1,350 miles in 13 annual five-day segments of 100 miles or more.To honor the significant milestone reached with this year's trail ride, to be held July 21-25, we present a recap of the 13 stages and photos from the founding cycle, 1965-1977. The ride began with 40 riders who wished to experience and honor the history and tenacity of the Nez Perce with their Appaloosas and finished the last leg of the first cycle with 411 participants.
