Colorado is as diverse as the Appaloosa breed. Its geography covers rolling plains, 14,000-foot peaks and semi-arid desert. The weather can provide a little bit of anything—70-degree days and 3 feet of snow, all in the same month. The capitol city ofDenver sits at 5,280 feet and touts itself as the mile-high city. Just south of Denver is the thriving town of Castle Rock, which is aptly named tor the rocky crown on the butte overlooking the town. Travel just a touch further, and you may end up at Smith Show Horses, where quality Appaloosas are easy to find. Charles "Chuck" Smith and his family are nestled behind the rocky buttes on a hill that lends itself to picturesque sunsets and the perfect place to raise foals.
