A study was conducted in Palghar, Maharashtra, India during rabi of 1992-93, 1993-94 and 1994-95 to determine the phosphorus and potassium requirements of lucerne varieties for maximizing green and dry forage production. The treatments comprise: 2 lucerne varieties (Anand-2 and Anand-3); 4 levels of phosphorus (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg P2O5/ha); and 2 levels of potassium (0 and 50 kg K2O/ha). Anand-2 produced higher green and dry fodder yield than Anand-3 during 1992-93. However, during 1993-94 and 1994-95, Anand-3 was superior in producing higher green and dry fodder yield compared to Anand-2. Application of 150 kg P2O5/ha recorded significantly higher green and dry fodder yield over all other levels during all seasons. Similarly, application of 10 kg K2O/ha significantly increased green and dry fodder yield during all three seasons.
