The effect of S (0, 200 and 300 kg/fed) and S-oxidizing bacteria (Thiobacillus thiooxidans) inoculation on the growth, oil content and chemical composition of celery cv. Dulce was investigated during 2002-03 and 2003-04 in Qalubia, Egypt. The treatments resulted in the increase of growth and yield characters including: plant height, branch number, leaf number, umbel number, fresh weight, dry weight and fruit yield/plant. Plants treated with S and S-solubilizing bacteria showed higher nutrient uptake and content, total fixed and essential oil contents, and total carbohydrates and protein contents than the control. Treated plants showed higher limonene and beta -selinene content in fruits than the control..
