Field experiment was conducted during kharif season 2000 at the Instructional Farm of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur (Chhattisgarh, India), to investigate the effect of different nutrient sources on soyabean. The soil of the experimental plot was clay in texture (Vertisol). Eighteen treatments were employed: (T1) CD (cow dung)+UM (urine) (7.3) 2.5 t; (T2) CD+UM (7.3) 4.0 t; (T3) CD+UM (7.3) 6.0 t; (T4) T1+N15P15K10; (T5) T2+N15P15K10; (T6) T3+N15P15K10; (T7) T4+soil granule; (T8) T5+ soil granule; (T9) T6+soil granule; (T10) T1+PSB (phosphate-solubilizing bacteria); (T11) T4+PSB; (T12) T7+PSB; (T13) N30P60K30; (T14) FYM (farmyard manure) at 5 t; (T15) FYM at 10 t; (T16) CD+UM (2.2) 50 kg (s); (T17) CD+UM (2.2) 100 kg (s)+N15P15K10; (T18) control. Data showed no significant variations at 30 DAS (days after sowing). At 45 DAS, maximum root volume was recorded with T6. Least volume was observed under T18. The effect of different nutrient management practice on nodulation at 30, 45, 65, 85 DAS and at harvest, root counts were made and significant variations were observed at different stages except at harvest. The number and dry weight of nodule at 30, 45 and 85 DAS were recorded maximum under T11. But at 65 DAS, it was maximum under T6..
