The quality of England's health and care services is holding up but looks increasingly precarious in a system that is "straining at the seams," the Care Quality Commission has warned. In its annual State of Care report the regulator said that most providers in England were continuing to provide good quality care, thanks to the dedication of staff. But it warned that the challenges associated with caring for an ageing population with increasingly complex medical needs had left the system struggling, with an estimated one in eight older people not getting the help they needed.
