Social Economics: Current and Emerging Avenues explores some of the more recent research in the economics of culture. Economists have long understood that culture constrains market participants, but few empiricists have measured its effects, and even fewer theorists have modelled it. The book serves as a useful introduction to the field of cultural economics. Readers will be introduced to the vast psychological and sociological literature on culture to which economists are only recently engaging. But the text also serves as a useful introduction to sociologists of a complementary and distinct economic approach to cultural issues. This is true of all the chapters, but especially true of the introductory chapter because it explicitly sets to bridge some of the gap between the two approaches.
