Superconductor Week's Superconductivity Stock Index (SSI), which incorporates publicly traded companies that develop and market superconductivity products, declined by 10% in 2014 while the overall S&P 500 gained 10% over the same period. However, most of the companies that compose the SSI operate non-superconductor businesses as well, meaning that activities not related to superconductivity may have had an effect on the SSI and influenced their poor performance relative to the S&P 500.
