Invitation to Division 52

摘要

In the inaugural issue of International Perspectives in Psychology (IPP), founding Editor Emerita Professor Judith (Judy) Gibbons painted the following vision and vista for IPP's future development: This journal brings a fresh and broader perspective to the discipline of psychology, and it has the potential to bring new and previously unexamined issues to the fore. Through articles appearing in IPP, psychologists living and working in the United States and Europe can learn about exciting discoveries and advances being made in other parts of the world, by means of studies that often address compelling difficulties faced by many of the world's people. In return, scholars and practitioners in countries in which psychology is still an emerging discipline can gain access to cutting-edge research from around the world. (Gibbons, 2011,p. 1) Since 2011,IPP has more than achieved these timely and laudable international goals. The Journal has published more than 124 articles from locations all over the world, covering a plethora of contemporary issues across a diversity of contexts. Collectively, these articles have highlighted the shared nature of the many issues that confront humanity, from poverty and inequality to freedom of movement and social inclusion. Scholars and practitioners in countries outside of the United States have contributed cutting-edge research and expanded the scope and reach of psychological and social science. This editorial is written to suggest an additional goal to those achievements. Building on the premise that “the world is shrinking," (Gibbons, 2011, p. 1),and moving closer to home,we invite Members of Division 52 to join the Journal in a variety of roles.
