Agni-V to be ready by 2011

India's 5,000-km range nuclear capable Agni-V strategic missile is expected to be ready by 2011. According to V.K.Saraswat, head of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), work is progressing satisfactorily on the development of Agni-V which is expected to become a reality by next year. Saraswat pointed out that Agni-V, the first canistered road mobile missile, would give India a comprehensive indigenous strategic capability. Agni-5 can bring the whole of China and Pakistan under India's strike range. Indeed, Agni-V could reach every continent except south and North America from any location in India. Saraswat also said that the success of two stage surface to surface ballistic missile Agni-lll has confirmed India's strategic deterrence capability. The nuclear capable Agni-lll missile has a range of 3,500-km.
