Chronic sclerosing dacryoadenitis: part of the spectrum of IgG4-related Sclerosing disease?

We read with interest the recent study by Kitagawa and colleagues,3 documenting abundance of IgG4-po-sitive plasma cells in chronic sclerosing sialadenitis of the submandibular gland, suggesting that this form of sialadenitis falls within the spectrum of lgG4-related sclerosing disease, of which the prototypic lesion is lympho-plasmacytic sclerosing (autoimmune) pancreatitis. IgG4-related sclerosing disease is a systemic condition probably autoimmune in nature, often affecting more than one organ system, and usually showing good response to steroid therapy.
