Bawa-Garba wins right to practise

Hadiza Bawa-Garba, the trainee paediatrician whose erasure from the UK medical register provoked a storm of protest from doctors around the world, has won her appeal to be allowed to practise again. She was found guilty of gross negligence manslaughter in November 2015 for contributing to the death of 6 year old Jack Adcock from septic shock at Leicester Royal Infirmary. A medical practitioners tribunal, which took account of systemic failings at the hospital and the extreme pressure under which she was working, suspended her for 12 months rather than striking her off. But the GMC appealed to the High Court, which erased her from the register in January.
