The end of the 1990s not only saw the demise of the German Democratic Republic, but also the beginning of the struggle by the majority of State-owned industries. If the Ilsenburg factory (which manufactures wheel and axle sets for trains), was able effectively to withstand the radical changes of the time, it was thanks, on the one hand, to the experience of long serving personnel and, on the other, to the fact that the company took advantage of the latest equipment and methods.
