An automatic tool identification system with non-contact data communication is an important element of computer aided manufacture. The direct assignment to the tool of wide-ranging data, which can neither be lost nor misread, and the automatic flow of data to the machine control system constitute the principal features of the systems in question. Given the increasing pressure on manufacturing operations, it is no wonder that they are gaining in importance.
