Figure 2 below illustrates the correlation between base metals acquisitions activity and year-on-year base metals price changes in percentage terms from the average 1996 price. In all cases, we have recorded the acquisitions in the year they were announced. The metals prices shown are the yearly average of the LME average monthly cash prices. In 2005, the average copper price increased by 28.5 percent to 1.67 dollars/ 1b, nickel rose 6.7 percent to 6.69 dollars/lb, and zinc rose 31.3 percent to 0.63 dollars/lb.
