Transverse testicular ectopia with persisting mullerian remnant masquerading as right inguinal hernia and left undescended testis.
A 1-year-old Asian boy came to our day surgery for repair of right inguinal hernia and left undescended testis. He was seen 2 months previously in our clinic with a large hydrocele and hernia in the right inguino scrotal region and an impalpable left testis. An examination under anaesthesia revealed that both testicles were palpable in the right hemiscrotum. A right inguinal exploration revealed a large patent processus vaginalis filled with fluid and containing both testicles. The hernial sac was dissected off the two spermatic cords and the persistent mullerian remnant (Fig. 1). The persistent mullerian remnant had to be excised to pave way for the left testicle to be brought to the left hemiscrotum via the midline septum. Post-operative review of the patient revealed good size testicles in the scrotum.
