Gov't to Raise the Share of Renewables to 20% of Final Energy

The Japanese government is aiming to raise the share of renewable energy, including that derived from heat pumps, in final energy consumption to 20% in or around 2020. Of this total, the share of thermal energy obtained from heat pumps is estimated to reach about 30%. In the 'Future Exploration Strategy' (J Recovery Plan) announced at a meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy held on April 17, 2009, it was specified that 'As a goal for renewable energy introduction, the strategy aims to raise the share of renewable energy (including that derived from heat pumps) in final energy consumption to 20% in or around 2020.'
