EU Recognizes Heat Pumps as Renewable Energy

Definition of renewable energy sources expands to aerothermal and hydrothermal energy sources. According to the European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE), the voice of the heating, cooling and refrigeration industry, on December 17, 2008, the European Parliament adopted the eagerly awaited EU Directive on the Promotion of Renewable Energy Sources. The final compromise text recognizes aerothermal and hydrothermal energy as sources of renewable energy under EU law for the first time.
