Honeywell and DuPont Create JV to Manufacture HFO-1234yf

Honeywell and DuPont have announced a manufacturing joint venture to produce HFO-1234yf for use in automotive air conditioning systems. The new refrigerant has 99.7% lower global warming potential (GWP) than the refrigerant currently used. Under the agreement, DuPont and Honeywell will share financial and technological resources with the intent to jointly design, construct and operate a manufacturing facility in China to produce HFO-1234yf refrigerant. The plant will be constructed in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, on the site of a manufacturing facility for a joint venture between DuPont and a Chinese company. The plant is scheduled to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2011 and will supply car air conditioner manufacturers in Japan, the United States, and Europe.
