A 72-year-old female presented to our hospital for her routine six monthly follow-up after a wide local excision of a grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma from her left breast and a level I axillary dissection which was performed 3 years prior. This lesion was oestrogen receptor and progesterone receptor positive; however, she only received radiotherapy as she refused chemotherapy. An asymptomatic recurrence was detected on mammography and was confirmed by core biopsy at this appointment. Nine years prior, she had a grade 2 invasive ductal carcinoma in the contralateral breast which was treated with a local resection and radiotherapy. Despite being deemed suitable, she refused chemotherapy treatment.
