The pathogenesis of acute appendicitis has been debated for over 100 years, with aetiological factors including luminal obstruction, lymphoid hyperplasia and rarely foreign bodies or malignancy. While blunt abdominal trauma and appendicitis are both exceedingly prevalent, the occasional coexistence of both pathologies has created controversy: is this true incidence or a coincidence? Although uncommon, this scenario has not been reported in the Australian literature. We present a case of acute appendicitis following blunt abdominal trauma, highlighting the role of imaging and clinical evaluation.
