Japan's Nippon Steel to deepen output cuts

Japan's largest steel producer Nippon Steel is deepening its output cuts with demand further deteriorating and showing no immediate signs of recovery. Nippon Steel said today it now plans to additionally halt the No.2 blast furnace (BF) at Kimitsu as soon as in mid-May, as it responds to falling domestic and export demand for steel products. The company plans to suspend some coke ovens at Kimitsu in line with the planned banking, or temporarily taking it out of blast, of the BF.
