China: si, W prices rise

Lower output offset weaker demand to push up silicon prices, while renewed stockpiling activity lifted tungsten prices. Prices for 99.65pc grade metal remained stable from 16 April at 35,000-36,000 yuan/t ($4,943-5,084/t) ex-works today, following a fall of Yn500/t on 14 April. The range for 99.8pc grade trioxide was assessed unchanged at Yn34,500-33,500/t ex-works, with key producers focused on fulfilling long-term orders. Sellers were reluctant to make further price concessions because of tighter profit margins, while consumers made purchases only for immediate demand.
