China's anshan Hailiang cuts ti sponge production

Major Chinese producer Anshan Hailiang has cut its titanium sponge production because of surplus supplies, lower spot prices and a fall in export orders from the mill products sector, as the Covid-19 outbreak continues to escalate outside of China. The company has now halved its monthly output to 300t. It has a sponge capacity of 8,000 t/yr and produced just 300t in February, down by 50pc from January, because of limited tetrachloride (TiCl4) feedstock supplies as a result of China's traffic restrictions to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
