n the wake of a challenge to its fundamental authority, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Board of Directors voted on February 6 that ASHRAE not only has the authority but also the duty to consider the implications for human health when it drafts new building standards. The board then directed its Ad Hoc Committee on Health Impacts in Standards to review all existing ASHRAE standards and to identify for action any that conflict with this position.
