us: indium prices rise as demand picks up

Indium prices edged up today amid increased buying interest from solder makers, but bismuth prices shed some of last week's gains as sellers lowered offers in order to compete for new deals. Prices for 99.65pc grade were at $2.68-2.78/lb cif US today, unchanged since 13 October amid muted spot trade. Some traders' margins are tightening as the cost of imports has risen and achievable sales prices within the US remain under pressure from low demand. Local US suppli- ers are emphasising proximity and shorter lead times to potential customers in order to protect market share from imported material.
