摘要

The ongoing semiconductor shortage has spooked automakers about the security of supply of the battery metals needed to power their electric vehicles (EVs) and they have called for more battery investment outside of China to reduce potential bottlenecks. “For supply chain security and reducing the carbon footprint, we would like to see more investment in refining and production in North America, hopefully by the [US president Joe] Biden administration,” global head of EV energy at Japan's Nissan, Zoltan Venczel, said on a panel at Argus Metals Live, citing southeast Asian countries such as Thailand and Indonesia as viable options.
