Finland’s Afarak cuts 2020 chrome output

Finnish chrome producer Afarak’s chrome ore and alloy output fell on the year in 2020 because of “discontinued mining activity” and disruption to demand from the stainless steel sector during the Covid-19 pandemic. The firm — which has mining operations in South Africa and Turkey, as well as processing plants in South Africa and Germany — produced 184,779t of chrome ore and 29,997t of alloy last year, down by 48.3pc and 58.1pc, respectively, from a year earlier.
