A study was made of the expression of the cyclin (cell cycle) gene in roots of Lupinus luteus cv. Ventus plants exposed to 0, 50, 150 or 350 mg Pb(NO3)2/litre. The level of cyclin mRNA and coding protein were examined by Northern and Western blot techniques and by using lupin cDNA (CycB1;1) and animal-derived antibody, respectively. The cyclin mRNA level was increased by 150 mg Pb, while ribonuclease activity and cyclin protein concentration decreased with increasing Pb concentration.
