Regulation goes global

The 20 largest economies in the world have pledged to strengthen financial supervision and regulation by making it more globally consistent. According to the final communique from the G20 summit, held in London, the strengthened regulatory system will 'promote propriety, integrity and transparency; guard against risk across the financial system; dampen rather than amplify the financial and economic cycle; reduce reliance on inappropriately risky sources of financing; and discourage excessive risk-taking.'
