David Stoddart-Scott may describe himself as a 'jack of all trades' but he is the master of an entrepreneurial spirit. Having already started a company in the renewable energy industry, he now finds himself as an integral part of budding business Seatricity, which is developing a means to use wave power to generate electricity. This Oceanus 2 device is a self-latching point absorber, ie, a float travels up and down with the waves and operates a pump to pressurise sea water which is piped ashore. It has a retraction force of about 10% of the pumping stroke, and so uses 10% of this pressurised sea waterto pull the pump back down, ready for the next wave trough.
