While several of its contemporaries have thrown in the towel recently, Germany's Nordic Yards has moved in the opposite direction and expanded its presence to three sites. In essence the Russian-backed group has taken advantage of P+S Werften's financial misfortune, with this year's purchase of the VolkswerftStralsund yard, adding this to its existing north-east German facilities in Wismar and Warnemiinde. This pair has had a varied history, being respectively owned by Bremer Vulcan Verbund and Warnow Went, then both by Aker Yards and Wadan Yards over the past few decades, with each yard's history stretching back to the 1940s.
