UASC christens fitter, greener LNG boxship

United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has christened the first vessel from a newbuilding programme comprising 17 eco-efficient vessels. With a capacity of 15,000TEU (A15 design), the SayVris said to be the industry's first LNG-ready ultra-large containership. Preliminary calculations indicate an EEDI efficiency index value just over half the 2025 limit established by the IMO. Ten further A15 vessels and six 18.800TEU (A18 design) box ships will be delivered from Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries to UASC by mid-2016.
