Landing ahoy

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the beginning of WW1, and the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Whilst landing craft actually played a relatively minor role in WW1, it was the experience of landing troops under hostile conditions in highly unsuitable boats, such as at Gallipoli, which first highlighted the need for specialised craft for the task. And of course such craft would, 30 years later, play a critical role in the Normandy landings.
