Industry confidence at seven-year low

Confidence in the shipping industry fell during the three months to May 2015 to its lowest rating for seven years, according to the latest market survey from international accountantand shipping adviser Moore Stephens. Respondents mainly complained about low freight rates and overtonnaging, while some voiced concern about private equity funding. In May 2015 the average confidence level expressed by respondents was 5.3, down from 5.5 in February 2015. This is the lowest recorded in the history of the survey, which was launched in May 2008 with a confidence rating of 6.8.
