This year's World Ocean Summit, the third such annual event organised by The Economist and hosted in association with National Geographic, brought together some 300 leading professionals from around the globe to discuss an emerging new economic and business paradigm forthe ocean: the Blue Economy. Specifically the conference sought to address a conflict of interest where a vision of the oceans and coasts as a new source of economic growth, job creation and investment sits increasingly uncomfortably with adverse impacts to ocean health and to the long term sustainability of ocean ecosystems.
