DRIFT ZONE: A PRUDENT RESPONSE BY CREW TO A FIRE CAUSED BY A FAULTY PRESSURE GAUGE AVERTED A CATASTROPHIC COLLISION

Fire broke out onboard Danish ro-ro cargo ship Panda on 7 October 2014 that was underway from Scrabster (Scotland) to Antwerp. The fire indirectly immobilised the main engine prompting the ship to drift in the direction of a nearby oil-field, resulting in the risk of an allision.To make matters worse the ship was transporting a quantity of nuclear waste.
